If you have seen Jake shredding around lately you might have noticed 1/20/09 stickers. The Times Argus reported that Jake Burton Carpenter leader of the Burton army donated $50,000.00 to Barack Obama's inauguration. Five people have given more than $150,000.00 since the beginning of December. Jake loves a good party, I speak from personal experience.
Chumps like Eric Schmidt and Larry Page from Google (CEO and co founder, respectively) only donated $25,000.00 each.
In tough economic times good to see Jake has a plan.

One of Blackcomb's gondolas had a tower collapse yesterday. Trapping 53 snowboarders and skiers, all were evacuated hours later. No word yet on what caused the tower to fail. This can't be good for already struggling resort...

Anon's Are Better For Changing The World.

This protester knows when shit goes down, always have a pair of Anon's around. Running from tear gas unleashed by riot police who were guarding a Athens courthouse. Protesters hurled rocks and firebombs as trail began for two cops. Greek authorities have charged a 37-year-old police officer with murder in the shooting of Alexandros Grigoropoulos, 15, who was shot in Athens's volatile central Exarchia district on Saturday night. A second officer has been charged as an accomplice in the shooting.
The cops claim to have come under attack by about 30 youth but witnesses dispute their claims.

Skateboarding Is So NOT Hot Right Now.

I am no fan of Pac Sun or any other big box skateboard/snowboard retailer. According to a November 28 regulatory filing, NWQ Investment Management Co. are not either. LLC cut it’s 10.87-percent stake in the Pacific Sunwear down to 6,419 shares (or 0.01-percent). PacSun’s stock value has dropped more than 85-percent this year, and closed Wednesday afternoon at around $1.80.

Roast Beef Rail Jam, Crabbe Mtn.

Well it's going to be 14 degrees, 57.2 for my US friends, today. But if you are in central NB tomorrow this is what the contest setup looks like for the second annual Roast Beef Rail Jam at Crabbe. Pretty impressive setup, the bunny hill has been turned into a rail garden for the day. So, fuck mother nature and her PMS ways. Get in the car and get to Crabbe Saturday.

This One Is For Plumber.

Eric Bush, 14-year-old skater who's video footage showed him being harassed by police officer Salvatore Rivieri. This footy went viral and showed rest of the world what many skateboarders put up with on a daily basis. The kids has been granted by the court to be able to sue the officer.
A nice reminder to keep those cameras rolling no matter what. Guess this is what happens when a grown man is forced to patrol the city in an electric golf cart (or in our case bikes).
The officer was removed from street duty and has not returned. I guess we need a video camera at the Commons next summer.

Moon Dust Watch: $387,000

This is in commemoration of the 40th Anniversary of 1969 Moon Landings. This watch was magnificently created by Romain Jerome, a swiss watch maker. This time piece was made from actual pieces of the Apollo 11 spacecraft, with a face coated in dust from rocks taken from the moon. Even the straps were woven with some of the suits of the astronauts. There will be only 1,969 of the watches made. If you can afford one you can buy them here.

Quiksilver Up For Sale?

The New York Times Dealbook blog mentioned Quiksilver and Nike in the same article today. So?

"One small deal that may be in the works would be the sale of Quiksilver, a maker of surfer-style clothing, to Nike or another strategic acquirer. Quicksilver has retained Morgan Stanley to advise on its strategic alternatives."

And seeing as Quik’s stock closed well below the $2 mark again today it could be a good deal, as long as Nike doesn’t mind buying over a billion in debt.
